2009 Rendarrio Syrah

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Syrah from the Central Coast is a dark and inky red, keep this off the white carpet.  The nose of this wine reminds you of a Cote Rotie with bit of barnyard, black olives, and a touch musty.  The palate shows a heavy wine with deep earthy fruit with a bitter middle and long tannic finish.  This is a powerful wine maybe a bit much for those who look for a softer Syrah.  It may become a better wine with even more age.

Sometimes you have to go with a Napa cab so today we are having the 2010 Chappellet.  This is a dark red with a nose filled with dark fruit, tar, graphite and esters just as it should be.  The mouth feel is very full with a huge fruit, layered flavors and a numbing tannic finish.  Drink this now or hold for 5 to 7 years and continue to enjoy it as it mellows in the bottle.
