This is a Grenache made from French grapes by Orin Swift it’s a very dark Grenache of ruby red with a huge nose. The nose starts with loam and barnyard but moves swiftly to black candied fruit, cedar, and leather, which is earthy and comforting. The wine is full bodied on the palate with a wonderful mouth feel that coats you palate. The fruit is forward and lovely with acidic layers in the middle then a lovely medium tannin but long finish lasting up to a several minutes. Must have more of this.

This well-aged Cote Rote is still a wonderful ruby red. The nose is huge with layered chocolate
candied black fruit, then leather, peppercorn, then black olive. The body is full with glycerin, and lovely
soft fruit with acid and a layered tannic finish. It’s an exceedingly vibrant wine after 14
years in bottle. Decant and wait for the
nose to appear before drinking. It is at
the point where to should be consumed.

Once in awhile the OWG crew finds a rare gem put away in a wine shop this bottle was in Grants Pass and we had it with lunch today. A very deep dark red wine with a layered nose of bacon, black olives, floral, sun dried tomatoes, and herb garden. This wine requires many sniffs to find all of nuances of its nose. It has a soft fruit with flavor of dark fruit, sweetness, tartness and spicy through the mid palate. A soft tannic finish which lingers and lingers will make you remember this wine. Take your time with this wine is deserves it.

We sampled the following wines at 38 Central on Friday May 18th. Thanks to David at 38 for the lovely selections he saved for us from a cooperage tasting the night before. These are all exceptional wines with scores and two short tasting notes.
Cheers, Ted and Tim

Bonnie's Mares 2006 Pinot 92
Charmes-Chambertin 2005 94 This burgundy has great nose a dark and rich wine, a little barnyard with leather, vanilla wafer and maple which is ever changing. The barnyard will fade in a few minutes. The palate is exquisite with velvet smooth fruit and wonderful supple tannin.

This Chateauneuf was brought to use by a friend of OWG. It's been decanted and allowed to breath for 10 minutes. The wine is dark garnet with a brown and orange tint to the edge. It has aged remarkable well the nose is alive and fresh, very dark fruit, green olive, very floral. When first opened it will be quite barnyard, but upon breathing settles into the nose described. The mouth feel is light to medium with dark cherry, layering of acids and tannin to a very long finish. Wonderful if not enough to describe it but the best I can say.

Christian Moueix makes this blend from the very small Pomerol area in Bourdeaux it is a primarily a Merlot based wine. A dark red wine with a very musty nose it improves with a little air so let this wine breath a bit or aerate it. The rest of the nose shows a nice black fruit, pine needles, and cherry hard candy. The palate is medium to full with a semi-sweet fruit, soft but slightly bitter middle and tannic finish.

An outstanding clear ruby wine with a hint of silver that announces itself as an elder statesman and something very special.
It has excellent French nose that is subtle, elegant, without any rough edges, that as we let it sit in the decanter it changed, and grew more complex and wonderful.
The French nose leads with mushroom, and a touch of loam and fruit that just teases with cranberry that just begs for another sniff.
Once you bring yourself to taste this perfectly balanced amazing blend of dark fruit, mid palette spice and orange peel, the finish warms softly, a finish fit for royalty. I just couldn’t help but have another sip. Entire meals can be wrapped around this wine. For full enjoyment decant and spend the time to let this great wine breathe.

This is well aged Cotes du Rhone grenache blend with orange tinted garnet color. The nose is a distinct barnyard, black olives, dark cherries and leather. The palate show a soft raspberry fruit, a charging yet supple tannin and acid on the finish. This wine is coming to it's end, the richness fads toward the end of the bottle, time drink it now.
