2010 Foris fly-over white

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This wine blend is mostly Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris with a straw color and a nose of  melons and citrus.  We served it quite chilled which produced a light refreshing wine with melons, acids, and minerality on the palate.  A nice summer sip you should try.

2003 Newell Vineyards Pour Deux Cabernet Sauvignon

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Cabernet is from Monterey County and still a quite dark deep red after 10 years.  The nose is black sloe with hints of black pepper, candied apple and esters.  The palate shows a full bodied red with sweet round fruit and very firm tannin that is long and lovely.  This could go even more years but let’s drink it now.

Newly Designated Elkton AVA Bottles Its First Vintage

Newly Designated Elkton AVA Bottles Its First Vintage

(Click Here for the Press Release in Adobe)

Elkton, Oregon, April 17th, 2013:
History was made on a chilly April morning in Elkton Oregon as The 2012 Oregon Riesling from Brandborg Winery became the first wine ever to be bottled with the new Elkton AVA on its label.

Elkton earned designation as an American Viticulture Area (AVA) from the federal government earlier this year to distinguish itself as a grape growing region ideal for growing high quality Riesling and other cool climate wine grapes.

The grapes used for the historic Brandborg Riesling were sourced from Elkton grower John Bradley of Bradley Vineyards. The vines were planted in 1983, at a time when Bradley says he never dreamed Elkton would be designated as its own AVA. “But attitudes change,” says Bradley, “and all these years later, here we are. The Brandborgs have such a reputation for exceptional Riesling, adds Bradley. “It's appropriate their wine is Elkton's Dirst bottling.”

Winemaker Terry Brandborg praises Bradley Vineyards as an “excellent source” of quality Riesling and he is very pleased with Elkton's Kirst ofKicial vintage. He describes his 2012 Oregon Riesling as a “medium dry wine with bright fresh fruit, minerality, crisp palate cleansing acidity and a long, dry Dinish.” 550 cases are being bottled for distribution both locally and throughout the United States. “We ship to 22 markets” says Brandborg, “including Virginia/Washington D.C., New York City and Wisconsin.” Now, all those markets will start seeing wines labeled with the new Elkton AVA.

2009 Folin Cellars Tempranillo

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Tempranillo from the Rogue Valley is a deep and dark red.  The nose shows a big dark fruit, plums, olives and smoke with a touch of vanilla for the oak.  The fruit is delicious sweet and full bodied when held on the palate.  The wine moves into a nice middle and supple tannic finish that is lingering and enjoyable.  This four year old could do well with another year in the bottle but is very drinkable now.

2008 Pebblestone Cellars Mélange

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This is one of my favorite red Bordeaux blends from the Southern Oregon.  The folks at Pebblestone change the blend each year.  They produce a wonderfully full bodied balanced offering.  The 2008 is a dark ruby red with a nose of black fruit, floral notes, old wood and a touch of tar.  The palate shows a well-defined fruit dry and delicious with a complex middle and layered tannic finish that is lasting.  This is one of the best Mélange ever.  If you like French Bordeaux you’ll love this wine.
